He is a graduate from The University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Degree in Music Education. While at UTEP he was a Presidential Excellence Scholar and graduated with the honor Cum Laude. Mr. Ontiveros played trumpet in the UTEP Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Band I & II.  He also participated in the UTEP Trumpet Ensemble where he had the opportunity to compete and perform at the National Trumpet Competition and International Trumpet Guild Conference. He received the Outstanding Student Award in Arts and Humanities presented by the Texas Board of Regents in 2018.

Mr. Ontiveros is also a private trumpet instructor.  He enjoys sharing his knowledge of trumpet and music with local students with whom he helps prepare for local auditions and competitions.  His goal while at Hornedo is to impact the lives of all of his students by sharing his knowledge and passion for music.
